My first visit to the lake for a long time, and even longer since doing a blog post.
The morning started very foggy and difficult to see very much. A few Tufted Duck on the water,
and lots of Great Crested Grebes around. Coots seemed to be the most numerous birds and quite a few Black-headed Gulls flying around too.
Down by the wall of the dam, a big row of them, standing and preening.
As I walked up the steps, I found some mushrooms growing amongst the wooden risers.
A perfect autumn colour; whatever they are.
The trees are beginning to get their golden coats of autumn now and I imagine it won't be long before the winter birds start to arrive.
A shot of the ubiquitous spider web covered in misty water droplets.
At the top end of the north lake, I heard the unmistakeable sound of a Wigeon, and after a bit of searching, the now clearer view of the lake as the fog began lifting, I found him.
The first of soon to be many, no doubt.
A couple of Gadwall too, and a Little Grebe.
Past the pub, and I began taking a few pictures of a very obliging Crow.
By the time I'd reached the south lake, the sun was shining strongly; the only mist visible was a long way off in the distance.
A couple of Herons, and more Coots, and when I reached the far end, by the bird pallets, a couple of Little Grebe to break the monotony of Coots.
Past the rowing club, and on towards the houses.
Up on the grass bank, something caught my eye. A Common Sandpiper, busily feeding, and totally oblivious to my presence.
After my fill of pictures, it was back towards the car park, and home.
